Develop Strong Writing Skills

Some people are naturally gifted at writing.  Most students, however, admit that they would like to be stronger writers, able to convey an articulate and persuasive message.  You will need strong writing skills if you are nominated for a large merit scholarship and, if required, for college admission essays.

If you have the option of taking a composition class or a short summer class on writing for college admissions, take advantage of it.  In your classes that require written essays or research papers, make an extra effort to raise the quality of your writing.  Ask your teacher to proof your work before the final report is due and incorporate his or her suggestions.  Pay attention to grammar, punctuation, spelling and the power of your message.  Learn to outline your thoughts before you write so that your essay has structure and purpose.
