Plan Extracurricular Activities

Explore the extracurricular activities offered at your high school and decide which ones you can pursue without sacrificing your grades.  Pick sports and clubs you will truly enjoy; not just ones that will look good on paper.

As you go through the rest of your high school years, it is fine if you change your mind on various clubs and sports but try to have a few in which you can show consistent participation and growth.

All of your extracurricular activities do not have to be connected with school.  Some students pursue martial arts, archery, gymnastics or a variety of other specialized interests outside of their school setting.  When you consider how many extracurriculars in which to become involved, take into consideration your commitments to community service, sports and other time consuming activities.  Be cautious not to spread yourself too thin.

Consider enrolling in the Congressional Award program in which you can earn your bronze, silver or gold Congressional Medal.  For a small registration fee of only $10.00, you can log your hours that you spend in community service, personal hobbies and activities, fitness activities and in another area called “exploration”.
