Know your lottery benefits!

If you reside in SC and go to a college in this state, you have some great opportunities for lottery scholarship funds.  Visit www.che.sc.gov for complete and official details.  A brief overview of the benefits are below:

Palmetto Scholarship: Provides $6700 for the freshman year and $7500 per year for the next three years if you have at least a 1200 SAT (or 27 ACT), are in the top 6% of your graduating class and have at least a 3.5 weighted gpa.  Students may also qualify for this award if they score 1400 or more on the SAT (or 32 ACT) and have at least a 4.0 gpa, regardless of class rank.  Only applicable to a four year institution.

Life Scholarship:  Provides $5000 per year for four years for students who meet two of the three criteria below:  Only applicable to a four year institution.

  • Have 1100 on the SAT (or 24 ACT) 
  • Rank in the top 30% of the graduating class 
  • Have a 3.0 gpa 

Hope Scholarship- Provides a one year award of $2800 (which includes a $300 book allowance) to freshman attending a four year institution who have at least a 3.0 gpa and who are not recipients of the Palmetto or Life Scholarships. 

Other need-based scholarships are available through this program.  Consult the lottery website for more details.

Academic Common Market- This state participates in the Academic Common Market, meaning that residents of this state are eligible to attend universities across the South (16 states) and only pay in state tuition if they pursue certain majors.

Visit www.sreb.org and click on SREB Programs, then Student Programs for more details. FL, NC and TX only participate in this waiver program at the graduate school level.
